A junkie, melancholic hit man, is hired to hit a Japanese night club/ bar owner. A professional, the assassin meticulously plans out the job. He steals a car. He makes a plan with his long suffering lover so that her husband will catch him leaving her apartment right after the job is complete, so as to set up his alibi. The contract is executed with perfection. Our assassin enters the club full of revelers. He makes his way to the office in the back. He finds his target and shoots him dead. The plan goes arrie, however, when the beautiful, sad singer of the nightclub bumps into the killer leaving the scene of the crime. Their eyes meet. A connection is made without a word exchanged between them. The killer quickly parts.

The assassin is picked up in a dragnet, but his meticulous planning has paid off. He has two airtight alibis - the lover and her husband. The cops however, have brought witnesses from the club to police headquarters to ID the killer, including the singer. The other witnesses are split on IDing the assassin. They can not say for sure. It was dark. He wore a hat. The assassin and the singer lock eyes. Does she recognize him? He holds his breath. No, she says, she is sure he is not the one. The assassin thanks her. He is free.

The police captain's instinct never fails him. He knows the assassin is the right man. He doggedly trails the killer, waiting for the inevitable moment when he slips. Meanwhile the gangsters who took out the contract see the assassin as a liability. He must be taken out. The tables have been turned on the killer. The noose around him tightens. Never the less, he is irresistibly drawn to the mysterious woman who saved his life
